Stephanie Darcell Sewell, beloved daughter, sister, mother, and “Ma Maw”, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2025. She was born on October 26, 1976, in Natchez, Mississippi, the firstborn child of the late LaVonne (Wimberly) Sewell and Timothy Sewell.
Stephanie‘s early life was shaped by travel and adventure as her family moved across the country during her father’s service as a Seaman in the United States Navy. From Virginia to California and eventually Washington State, she experienced a life full of culture and new beginnings. She attended both Bremerton and Cascade High Schools on the Olympic Peninsula, where she and her sister Lashawn created a drill team – a memory that reflects her lifelong love of dancing, music, and joyful expression.
Stephanie was known for her vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and the candid honesty she shared with those closest to her. Family was at the center of her world. As the eldest sibling, she was a guiding force to Lashawn, Timothy, Jr., and Akeem. Her greatest pride and joy were her two children, Zuri and Ziayr Sewell, and her cherished granddaughter, Promyse LaVonne, who affectionately called her “Ma Maw”. Together, they were not only her heart but also her closest companions and dearest friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving mother LaVonne (Wimberly) Sewell. She leaves behind her devoted father, Timothy Sewell, her children Zuri and Ziayr Sewell, and her granddaughter, Promyse LaVonne. She is also survived by her grandmother Marcella Brown; aunts Irma Thomas and Linda Sewell, all of Natchez, MS; siblings Lashawn (Sewell) Wright and Timothy Sewell, Jr. of Everett, WA, and Akeem (Sarah) Sewell of Kansas City, MO; and a host of nieces and nephews; Zabre Sewell, Zyanna Wright, Zashanti Davis, Tayshon Sewell, Taliyah Sewell, Kaitlyn Sewell, Deborah Franssens, and Liam Franssens. Stephanie’s legacy lives on in the hearts of countless family members and friends who loved her dearly. She will be forever remembered for her strength, laughter, and the love she so freely gave.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, April 7th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery 100 Blaine Avenue NE in Renton, WA 98056 followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m.
