Charlene Rowena Burnell Avery, born April 28, 1940, in Kirkland, Washington, passed away in Burien, Washington on January 19, 2019 with her family at her bedside. Charlene's family is grateful that she is no longer suffering, but she will be truly missed. She was a loving, caring mother, sister and friend to everyone. Her passions were sailing the San Juan Islands, Interior design, and spending time with family and friends. As the owner of her own company, Charlene Designs, she specialized in interior design and remodeling of kitchens and baths for many home owners throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Raised in Bellevue by her parents, Charles and Gladys, Charlene graduated from Bellevue High School in 1958 before moving on to Washington State University where she met her future husband Allan Avery. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Kelly, Stuart and John. Despite parting ways with Allan, they maintained a caring relationship that lasted to the end. Never remarrying, she lived a full and happy life with many close friends along the way. As a graduate of BHS class of 1958, Charlene stayed closely connected with her classmates and always enjoyed planning their class reunions. She was well loved by so many people, known for her quick-witted sense of humor, and her flair for style. She was one of a kind!
She is survived by her sisters, M Brooke Roeseler, and Mickie Groth. She is also survived by her children, Kelly Clark, Stuart Avery, & John Avery,
Charlene had many grandchildren, whom she treasured: Kendall Avery, Chandler Avery, Rowenna Clark, Kennedy Clark, Forrest Avery, & Garrett Avery.
She was preceded in death by her father Charles Raymond Burnell, mother Gladys Burnell and step mother Inga Burnell. There will be no services per the family's request.
