Thomas Madison Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Joseph Madison

We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Thomas J Madison during his 74 years, among them: Never discard any old car parts, do the work yourself instead of hiring a professional to do it for you, and don’t spend your money unnecessarily.  Tom passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 14, 2019 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.  He was a 1962 graduate of Renton High School and graduated from the University of Washington in 1967 where he was a member of the Zeta Psi Fraternity.  He married Barbara Lenning on August 18, 1967 in Seattle.  He worked as Purchasing Director with PacCar in Renton and then Bellevue until his retirement, serving 30 years in various departments all within the same company.  He displayed a wonderful knack of negotiations and solving difficult problems.  He was given the gift of life with a kidney transplant at the age of 53.  It was hard.  But he was a lucky man for 22 years who led a lucky existence, and for this he was grateful.  Tom truly lived life to the fullest through travel, restoring his antique cars, and square dancing.  Tom had an uncanny ability to entertain and spoil his grandchildren.   He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Barbara; his son Jim  (Stephanie) Madison; his daughter Tamara (Patrick) Burns; four grandchildren: Anna, Donovan, Gabriel, and Kalista; his brother Jerry Madison; two nieces and two nephews; and a couple of cousins.  It was Tom’s quick wit and authenticity that was so admirable to so many of his lifelong friends.  He will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.  There will be a ‘Celebration of Life’ July 28, 2019, details will follow.  In lieu of flowers please donate to:  http://www.swedishfoundation.org/organ-transplant .  Or checks can be mailed to the following address:  Swedish Medical Center Foundation, c/o Duncan Robinson, 747 Broadway, Seattle, WA  98122.  MAKE SURE TO REFERENCE Tom’s name in the memo line so the monies will be designated for the Transplant Fund in his honor.
