Alice Meldrum Obituary

Our beloved Alice Ruth Bentz Meldrum passed away on Friday, May 31, 2019, in Renton, Washington.

Alice was born October 8, 1946, to Franklin D. and Helen Snow Bentz in Vancouver, Washington, just 8 minutes after her twin sister Ann.  Upon graduating high school in Vancouver, Alice made her way to Renton, Washington, and worked for a number of years for Boeing where she met David Meldrum whom she married.  On June 14, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  She also worked for the Renton School District; but she relished being a homemaker and mother, providing daily service to her children until the last.

Alice thrived on befriending and serving everyone she met and making sure each one felt included.  She unselfishly prepared and served meals to large groups regularly and made and shared thousands of dozens of cookies and other baked goods.  She repeatedly visited numberless friends and those who were homebound or ill.  She enjoyed playing board games and would challenge anyone to a lively game of Scrabble.  She took great pleasure in taking photographs of every person at a meal or activity and generously sharing prints with everyone.  She is also remembered for promptly sending thoughtful thank you notes for every kindness shown her, as well as cards for birthdays, holidays and other occasions.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the Savior’s Atonement and the assurance that she will live together with her family and loved ones again.  Alice served faithfully in many callings over the years, including as a Relief Society president; and she performed dedicated service for 22 years as an ordinance worker in the Seattle Temple.

Alice is survived by her husband, David, and their children, Jay Meldrum and Joy (Dave) Burkey and their six children; brothers Stephen, Kenneth, Malcolm, and Daniel and sisters Ann Hall, Martine Ziniker, and Pam Foster.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A burial service will be at 2:30 p.m. on June 5, 2019, at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 100 Blaine Ave NE, Renton, Washington.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.
